Wappen Buch 1706. Germany, 1706-1782. Folio [32,7 x 20,6 cm]. 64 (of 74) leaves. With 645 mounted coat of arms (including 112 drawings) and 94 seals. Various sizes: from 25 x 20mm to 380 x 580mm. Contemporary vellum. Spine damaged.

This very interesting coat of arms collection includes exclusively broadsheets, occasional prints and drawings. Many coat of arms are available in different versions and numerous are mirror inverted prints. Almost all are handwrittenly entitled and many have additional manuscript commentaries. The album seems to be the reference book of a heraldic printer or draughtsman and is a comprehensive and revelatory source for the practice of 18th century German heraldry. The album has yet to be scientifically reworked. The collection includes amongst others the following coat of arms: Bishop of Würzburg, Prince Georg of Hessen-Darmstadt, Metternich, Schönborn, architect Johann Dientzenhofer, Taxis, Hanau-Lichtenberg, Franz Barckhaus, Abbot and Prince of Fulda, Eleonore Wilhelmine of Anhalt-Köthen, Georg Jakob Anton Graf of Thun, Prince of Zweibrücken and Wilhelm Ulrich of Guttenberg.

The album has been heavily used and plundered. Over 20 leaves have partly large cutouts and several coat of arms have been removed. Several blank leaves had been removed at the end of the volume.
