Paris, Langlois, c.1700. Oblong 4to (19,5 x 31 cm). 11 (of 12) numbered engravings. Disbound.

Almost complete copy of this extremely rare and impressive series by Franz Ertinger after Wenceslaus Hollar’s twelve-sheet series „Animalium, Ferarum, & Bestiarum, Florum, Fructum, Muscarum, Vermiunque Icones variae“ from circa 1662-1663. The engravings show an interplay of plants and animals, each with a larger representation in the center, framed by smaller animals and plants: title, elephant, horse, griffin, camel, bear, lily, peony, lion, leopard and carduus. It lacks the twelfth engraving with the wolf at its centre.

The last two plates cut shortly in the lower plate margin (affecting the plate number), title slightly stained in the left outer margin – a very good copy.
