Pair of statues of putti/cherubs, one with a bird in its hands, the other with a bird’s nest.
Bronze sculptures, mounted on red marble base, ca. 1880. Height: c. 26 cm; width: c. 10 cm. Weight: 3,798 kg (together).
The cherubs share similar youthful features, with soft, rounded faces and intricately detailed curly hair, embodying classical ideals of beauty and innocence. Each cherub holds an object that adds individuality while enhancing their connection: one cradles a bird, evoking a sense of gentleness and care, while the other examines a globe or fruit with curiosity, symbolizing discovery or the bounty of nature. Their postures, slightly turned and balanced, make them appear as though they are interacting, either with each other or as part of a shared scene. The loosely draped cloth around their waists adds movement and texture, uniting the figures stylistically while keeping the focus on their youthful forms. Together, they evoke themes of innocence, nature, and harmony, characteristic of Rococo or Neoclassical decorative art. Unfortunately, the figures are not signed.
