FRENCH MANUSCRIPT – „Discrection (Description?) de la Sphere et des Globes“ . (France), 1721.

15 leaves [ca. 31 x 22 cm]. With 7 full-page ink drawings + 16 text pages and 2 additional drawings in the text. Originally bound together as a book.

Very interesting early 18th century manuscript on various astronomical and astrological notions. The drawings depict: one horizontal sundial, one vertical sundial, 3 armillary spheres, a sphere following the geocentric model, two open spheres (on one sheet). The text provides information on various astronomical and astrological notions and comes as a extension to the drawings. It explains notions such as meridian, the armillary sphere, astronomical horizon, the Ecuator, the constellations and zodiac signs, the Tropics, etc.

Particularly beautiful and scientifically accurate astronomical drawings. Perhaps made with an educational purpose.

The first leaf is completely loose (with several small deposited tears and missing fragments), two of the drawings with some waterstaining, the others partly slightly stained, with a small hole on one of the text pages, otherwise in very good condition.
